The ZZ Plant, also known as Zanzibar Gem is a super easy care plant. Originating from Eastern Africa the Zanzibar Gem evolved to survive extended periods of droughts followed by flash floods.

We think the ZZ makes for a great gift for men, or anyone who is prone to killing their plants due to (almost) unkillable nature.

Read our ZZ Plant Care Guide below for those in need of a little guidance, but you really shouldn’t have to worry too much with this houseplant.

All parts of the plant contain calcium oxalate crystals, which is mildy toxic to humans and pets.

Please note: this product DOES NOT include a pot. Browse our entire range of indoor pots, or choose between our ceramic pots or self-watering plant pots.

Please note: this plant comes in a plastic nursery pot. Browse our entire range of plant pots to add that extra charm and character to your home.

How To Care For ZZ Plant

Only water when the soil has completely dried out. This plant can do without water for months (in the right spot). If you notice a weakened grey stem, yellowing leaves and dry, crispy patches on the leaf edges then the plant is under-watered or in a too spot that is too bright (if you are watering).

Light & Location

ZZ plant is not too fussy. You can put this plant in almost any spot in the house. Just don’t place it a in cold, drafty spot or an area with too much direct sunlight.

ZZ plant is fine with low humidity. Just wipe the leaves with a damp cloth from time to time to remove any dust or potential pests and avoid over-misting – or for a simpler solution pop in the shower and rinse down.

This plant likes well-draining soil.

You can use houseplant feed at half strength or cactus feed once a month, but it shouldn’t need too much. You’re always better to under feed rather than over feed.

Pests and Diseases

Not prone to pests, but keep an eye out for the common house pests such as mealy bugs, scale, aphids, spider mites and fungus gnats.

You can propagate your ZZ Plant by means of division or by taking stem cuttings. Or, simply repot your ZZ plant into a bigger pot every other year.
