How To Care For Weeping Fig ‘Danielle’
Allow the top third of the doil to dry between watering. Weeping Figs have delicate root systems so don’t use cold water when you do top them up and make sure the water drains out of the pot to help prevent root rot. If you’re a first-time plant parent, read our watering plants guide. You won’t regret it!
During the spring and summer, put it in a brightly lit spot away from any direct light. Excessive exposure during this time will negatively affect the plant in the likes of sunburn and dehydration. When it gets to autumn, put the plant on a spot where it can get an hour or two direct light per day to get it through the dormancy period.
Keep your weeping fig in a stable, humid environment. Consider using a pebble tray (or frequent misting) for optimum conditions. Signs of an under-humid room are primarily similar to inconsistent fluctuations, with slowed growth, browning leaf-tips and leaf loss. Never put in a cold drafty spot, like near doors or windows, as it can’t tolerate cold temperatures.
The weeping fig really thrives in rich, fast-draining soil. Remember, these trees are used to the warm and wet woodlands of tropical Asia. If you are unsure as to what soil may be needed to top up your pot, get in touch with your local garden centre or DIY shop!
The weeping figs love a little bit of fertiliser every now and again! You can use houseplant feed or general plant fertiliser once a fortnight in spring and summer. Generally speaking, Nitrogen dense fertiliser is perfect for these indoor plants as this will ensure your foliage is continually thriving. Feed the plant once a month during autumn and winter. We recommend you use some of our Miracle-Gro® Push & Feed All-Purpose. If you have never fertilised a Weeping Fig “Danielle”, make sure you read our guide to using fertiliser!
Check the plant occasionally for spider mites, mealybugs, aphids and scale. If your plant becomes infected, order some of our neem oil natural insecticides. Simply, spray until the problem desists. If you think your Weeping Fig “Danielle” has been infected, you can diagnose this using our pests and diseases guide!
If your plant becomes root-bound (the roots are reaching the bottom of your nurse pot) then it may be time to re-pot your weeping fig! The process for repotting is really easy. Just find yourself a hip and trendy pot that is two inches larger than the pot you own. Then, repot in with some new soil and voila! you’re sorted. We have a handy repotting guide if you have never repotted your plant before.
