I ordered a Kentia Palm from Oxy-Plants. I chose Oxy because they were by fair the best value for money and the most efficient in processing and delivering my new plant baby. I ordered on the Thursday and it arrives on the Monday.I was half expecting the plant to be dehydrated or lost its zest for life. HOWEVER, I couldn't have been more wrong; dark healthy green leaves, beautiful shape to the body of the plant and all planted in a fairly moist post of potting compost.Wrll done Oxy, you've got a customer for life in me now! 😁

How To Care For Banyan Fig

Allow the top couple of inches to dry between watering to avoid overwatering. A great way to gauge this is to place your thumb in the soil. If it’s dry, it’s time to water!

Banyan FIgs will survive in most conditions, but they really thrive in a brightly lit spot. Being from the Inidian subcontinent, keep your Ficus benghalensis away from any cold or drafts.

The Banyan Fig prefers a humid environment, but isn’t too demanding on this front. Give a misting occasionally and keep the leaves dust free.

Banyan Figs prefer a rich, well-draining soil. Ensure the water can drain away from the pot freely and ensure it does not sit in water. It likes consistently moist soil.

Fertilise monthly during spring and summer to keep your Banyan Fig happy and healthy.

As with many other members of the ficus family, it can occasionally become susceptible to pests such as scales and mealy bugs. To treat, simply order some of our neem oil on next day delivery, and spray on your leaves, soil until resolved!

Although Banyan Fig’s like to be kept quite root-bound, it is recommended to repot them every 2-3 years to allow some growth. If you want to keep your Ficus Roy from growing too tall you can pinch your plant back above a node, which also encourages it to branch out.

About Banyan Fig

Banyan Fig (Ficus Roy Benghalensis) also called Indian banyan, is a uniquely shaped tree of the mulberry family (Moraceae) native to the Indian subcontinent. The banyan reaches heights up to 30 metres (100 feet) and spreads laterally. Aerial roots that develop from their branches descend and take root in the soil to become new trunks. One tree may in time assume the appearance of a very dense thicket as a result of the tangle of roots and trunks. One individual, known as Thimmamma Marrimanu, in Andhra Pradesh, India, is thought to have the broadest canopy of any tree in the world. The banyan is also the national tree of India and symbolic to many Indians.

With dense, bright green foliage, the Banyan fig will make a perfect addition for those wanting an exotic showstopper in their home! To really show off this indoor plant’s looks, why not pair it with one of our sleeker and understated indoor pots? The curved classic would certainly make the perfect pair!

Please note: this plant comes in a plastic nursery pot. Browse our entire range of plant pots to add that extra charm and character to your home.
