How To Care For Dragon Tree
As with nearly all houseplants you want to really avoid over-watering your Dragon tree. Allow half the soil to dry out before re-watering. If you’re a plant care beginner, be sure to look at our “how to water your plant” care guide.
Dragon trees can perform well in a range of different environments but prefer to be kept in a well-lit area away from direct sunlight.
Dragon trees are used to dry, arid environments so humidity isn’t a big issue here.
Use a loose, well-drained potting mix—loamy soil amended with peat moss is ideal. Make sure the container you choose has room for the plant’s extensive root system.
You’ll hardly need to fertilize your Dragon tree but if you do then it’s best to lightly feed it in early spring and not in winter.
If using fertiliser is new to you, read our “How to Fertilise Your Houseplant” page!
Dragon trees are vulnerable to scale, mealybugs, and thrips. Apply a natural insecticide like neem oil and wipe with a clean, damp cloth to help rid your plant of any pests.
If you think your plant is suffering from a pest or disease, take a look at our Pests and Infections page!
These trees aren’t likely to need repotting for two or three years but you can still refresh the potting mix annually to replace any salt deposits.
Wondering how to repot your houseplant? Take a look at our repotting guide. It has all the information you’ll need!
