What is Rooting Powder?

Are you looking to get the most out of your propagations and new shoots? If so, then Rooting powder will certainly help you along the way. This is a natural hormone that you can house your cuttings in for maximised growth. It is comprised of naturally derived plant extracts and is a must-have item for any gardener or houseplant owner!

When you have some new cuttings, or green shoots, a small amount of rooting powder will help improve your new plant’s chances of survival and growth. Rooting powder not only strengthens roots, but develops them quicker than the more traditional “water-rooting” method. If you have the chance to take cuttings from your favourite plant, then having some rooting powder will make sure these cuttings stay alive. This way, you can given your new plants away (or keep them all to yourself!).

Rooting is suitable for everyone, from the experienced gardener to the not so green fingered. All you need are some new shoots, and a small container to place your cuttings. Something like an empty and clean jam jar, or GÜ desert pot, is ideal! Simply, place a teaspoon’s worth of rooting powder into your container (enough to coat the bottom of your cutting), put your cutting in the jar, and check on it every couple of days. Don’t overwater your cuttings either. It’s really that easy!

Why use Rooting Powder?

Typically, rooting powder should increase the growth rate of your propagated cuttings when compared to watering. With plants that would usually take weeks, or even months, to develop roots, this can be decreased to a little as 1 to 2 weeks. However, it is also important to consider that all plants are different, and will grow at different rates. Don’t be too disheartened if it’s taking a while!

This product is also suitable for almost all indoor houseplants. When used carefully, it is suitable for all: palms, shrubs, hanging plants, and even herbs.
