A good selection of plants and just what I was looking for. They were despatched quickly but due to a problem with the courier I had to wait longer than expected for them. That was disappointing. Overall customer service was good. More care needs to be taken by the courier service as when the plants did arrive the box was on its side at the back of the van.

I purchased a Lucky Bamboo plant and when it arrived the plant was in absolutely great condition. Even better than I had originally anticipated. However, the pot the plant came in was broken despite the protective package. It's most probable that the pot was broken whilst in transit.Upon contacting Customer Services, the representative was friendly, efficient and prompt in resolving the issue. Therefore, I will definitely be making further purchases and would highly recommend Oxy - Plants.

How To Care For Snake Plant

Don’t overwater. Too much water is the snake plant’s weakness. Place in a well-drained plant pot to avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot. Only water the soil when it’s completely dry.

Indirect sunlight is best. Partial sun works best for snake plants. Though, it can still grow in darker corners or in brighter window areas. If completely shaded, the plant can dull and the leaves may become a bit floppy.

Perhaps one of the most popular reasons people include snake plants in their decor is that they’re low maintenance, requiring little attention to grow. They’re resilient, hardy plants and can survive in relatively dry environments, both indoors and ou

Keep in well-draining, sandy soil. Avoid using peat-based compost and opt for a cactus based mix, if you’re looking for a ready-mixed potting medium.

Really not necessary but you can opt to use a weak cactus fertiliser during spring and summer. Don’t fertilise in winter.

If using fertiliser is new to you, read our “How to Fertilise Your Houseplant” page!

Snake plants shouldn’t really be affected by pests and diseases, but if you have an infestation already in the house, make sure you move it away and treat it with neem oil if necessary.

If you think your plant is suffering from a pest or disease, take a look at our Pests and Infections page!

Choose a sturdy pot when repotting and be gentle with the roots. You can easily propagate your snake plant by division when repotting. Make sure you use fresh, sandy compost when repotting your snake plant.

Wondering how to repot your houseplant? Take a look at our repotting guide. It has all the information you’ll need!

About Snake Plant

The snake plant (Sansevieria Trifasciata Laurentii), or mother-in-law’s tongue, is a popular indoor house plant with tall, leathery, pointed leaves earning the plant its name. The sleek, upright shape of the snake plant can complement an arrangement of softer, bushier plants.

Snake plants are often used as home decor, as they’re pleasing to the eye, easy to care for, and require little water to survive. This makes the snake plant the perfect almost unkillable house plant.

The snake plant is native to Asia and Africa where it is believed to protect the home from evil influences, the mother-in-law’s tongue is also called a good-luck plant, but it might not be so lucky for children or pets – so keep off-ground level if you have any small friends who may be prone to nibbling.

Snake plant benefits

The snake plant, commonly referred to as mother-in-law’s tongue, is a resilient succulent that can grow anywhere between 6 inches to several feet. In addition to providing ambience, snake plants have several health benefits.

Similar to other household succulents, snake plants help to filter indoor air. What’s unique about this particular plant is that it’s one of the few plants that can convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into oxygen at night, making it a fantastic bedroom plant.

This quality makes it an ideal plant for bedroom decor as it can help regulate healthy airflow.

What toxic pollutants do snake plants remove?

Snake plants are also known for their ability to help remove toxic air pollutants called VOCs. Though in small contributions, snake plants can absorb cancer-causing pollutants, including CO2, benzene, formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene.
