How To Care For Fatsia Japonica
Keep your Fatsia’s soil moist but not completely wet as you don’t want to onset root-rot.
You can place your Fatsia Japonica almost anywhere. If you’re keeping it indoors, make sure it’s not in a room which is too warm, but this plant isn’t too fussy about where it lives.
Japanese Aralia will enjoy a misting with a water mister every now and again. Wipe away dust from its glossy leaves to maximise photosynthesis.
Japonicas like a well-draining soil mix. We also urge people to choose a peat-free potting medium where possible. They can perform well almost anywhere outdoors.
You can treat with neem oil or another plant pest control if you see any bugs or pests living amongst its leaves or cubbyholes.
Repot when you see roots coming from the base of the pot and transplant to a pot slightly larger than its rootball.
About Fatsia Japonica
Fatsia Japonica is a hardy plant that can be grown both indoors & outdoors. Its large, broad leaves are its dominant characteristic, which spread on the end of its long, tender stems. The Japanese Aralia’s bright evergreen leaves add rich foliage to the garden or home all year round. It works really well in a shaded part of the garden where other plants may not perform so well.
This plant is often introduced to tropical gardens for its unusual style which is unique amongst a typical English garden. It is also both salt and wind tolerant meaning it can perform just as well in woodland as it can in a seaside garden.
If kept indoors, Fatsia performs best in a cool room – which is great to consider for conservatories or areas which are more prone to drafts. Move away from warm rooms in Winter and bear in mind that this plant is quite slow growing.
Please note: this plant comes in a plastic nursery pot. Browse our entire range of plant pots to add that extra charm and character to your home.
